The F.S.T. (Flow-Stopping Tourniquet) saves lives by quickly and simply stopping exsanguinations from extremity trauma. The F.S.T. is for controlling the hemorrhage of arterial bleeding from an injured extremity; it stops the flow of arterial bleeding from a wound by applying circumferential pressure around the extremity. Pressure is applied by rotating a specially designed "T" bar locking device with a single strap running through it. The use of the single strap creates a bilatteral cinching mechanism producing twice the force in a single rotation of the "T" bar. The "T" bar is then secured in place by hooking it into nylon locking loops. The running end of the strap is secured through a metal life support buckle. The F.S.T. tourniquet has a positive locking mechanism that does not allow for accidental release of pressure from the tourniquet. The F.S.T. tourniquet may also be used to reinforce an existing pressure dressing and can be tightened over this dressing without over-exerting pressure and stopping arterial blood flow.
